A bit of friendly surfing competition
Well expression session II went ahead in epic waves.
Anna stood in as photographer, and now realises just how lonely it is being stuck behind the camera.
So here are some shots from yesterday.
Maish using all 10’4 of his board early on in heat 1.

Well before deciding it was time to sit down and have a rest

Sunny showed that all over deck traction pads did the job despite covering up the lovely board

Well it worked some of the time anyway

Steve worked hard to get towards the nose on this massive peak

There were so few waves some people had to share

Steve found the odd shoulder high one that came through

And Maish found one over knee high.

Our top judging team were out, thanks to Amy & Nic

It was a close fought battle with not much to choose between the surfers in heat 1

The judges were split but the final result was 1. Maish, 2. Steve, 3. Sunny, in what was the closest heat of the day.
Then came what in my view was the toughest heat of the day

Fatboy got onto one early on

Then got off again

Ste may have been pushing it a bit hard for the conditions

Ramon edged towards the nose.

Then edged back

Fatboy couldn’t quite get the board artwork in shot, despite a valiant effort

Ste dragged a hand in the face to stop the board spinning out.

Then decided it was time for a walk

Ramon wasn’t giving up without a fight

But the one legged surfing was a move to far

Ste tried surfing upside down

But it didn’t work

He also got caught by this one closing out….. ouch that had to hurt, or maybe not!

In between he rode backwards and forwards like this

Well when not trying to impress the judges with his wipeouts (it didn’t work)

Fatboy on his way up

Then back down

1. Ste, 2. Ramon, 3. Fatboy
The final heat, Andy

Ben stayed close to our water photographer

Trevski learn’t from Fatboy’s mistake and got the board logo centre shot. Not sure judges gave full credit for what appears to be backwards surfing.

Were the waves starting to pick up

Perhaps not
The spectators on the beach were focussed on the action

Steve still couldn’t believe the judges hadn’t given him the first heat

Heat 3 was over

1. Glos Andy, 2. Ben G 3. Trevski
Ste still couldn’t fin a rash vest that fitted.

But that didn’t stop him

Andy was still pushing the limits

Perhaps too far

Ste got another (the likeness with the energiser bunny was mentioned several times)

I’m not sure the judges were convinced this was a drop knee turn

What’s this?

Another one leg surfing attempt

Still going

Gone

Ste again!!!

Maish, going for it

Too much

Look who’s on the nose again

In the last 10 minutes, Maish found some rideable waves

Where’s he going now

He doesn’t even need a board

Did Ste pay Fatboy to go and take out the other finalists?

Maish seemed to be in need of a rest again

Andy caught the last wave in the session

Someone forgot to tell Maish it was all over

Then it was time for a BBQ
